FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan University (16-7) defeated Oklahoma City University (6-11) with a score of 8-3, after today's victory the Rams win their first conference series on the year
The Rams started today by giving up two hits to allow the stars to get close to striking early, but after some clutch pitching from
Jorge Carvajal, the Rams escaped unscathed. Just 15 minutes later, the Rams drove in two runs from a two RBI double from
Tahir Meulens to then finish the first with the Rams up 2-0. The Stars couldn't find any offense for the next three innings with only one baserunner from a walk. The Rams continued to hit the ball well, just couldn't get the final push to get some runs across.
In the fifth inning the Rams started to have a serious push offensively with some serious power.
Rody Garcia took the first pitch he saw and hit a towering shot over the right field wall, bringing the Rams score to 3-0, the next batter and just three pitches later, Meulens once again came up big with a line drive over the left field wall. Just an inning later in the bottom of the sixth, the Rams pushed across four with the help of keen eyes to load the bases. Once loaded, the Rams got one across due to a wild pitch, then another walk to load the bases one more time. Garcia had a full count and then ripped a base-clearing three RBI double to extend the lead to 8-0.
The Rams were able to shut the door on the Stars late to come away victorious and take the series, outscoring their opponent 9-8 on the weekend.
The Rams pitching was solid throughout the day aiding in the stars low scoring affair, on the other side, the Rams offense was productive with 9 hits.
Carvajal had a dominant performance with striking out eight and only allowing five hits through five and two-thirds innings pitched. Carvajal also picked up his first win of the season, bringing his season record 1-1.
The Rams continue conference play against College of the Ozarks starting with a doubleheader on Mar. 7 at 1:00 PM, and the second game taking place at 4:00 PM.
