FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan University (15-7, 11-7 SAC) used a dominant third quarter to power past John Brown University (12-11, 10-9 SAC), securing a 68-53 victory on Thursday at the Sid Richardson Center.

The Rams started strong, jumping to a 17-8 lead after the first quarter. Kameryn Phillips led the early charge with six points, while Texas Wesleyan's defense limited the Golden Eagles to 23.1% shooting in the opening frame.

JBU found some rhythm in the second quarter, as Briley Burns hit back-to-back three-pointers to trim the deficit. However, the Rams responded with a key layup from Za'Naiha Hensley and a three-pointer from Peyton Foster. TXWES maintained control, heading into halftime with a 29-22 advantage.

The Rams broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring John Brown 29-15. Sophia Hurtado sparked the offense with a layup and a free throw, while Savanna Smith and Taryn Wills connected on key baskets. Phillips and Wills capitalized on turnovers, leading to fast-break points that pushed the lead to as many as 24 late in the period. Texas Wesleyan shot an efficient 68.8% (11-of-16) in the quarter, including 40% from three-point range.

John Brown attempted to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter, with Graci Harris and Sarah Snodgrass adding key buckets. However, the Rams' defense held firm, forcing multiple turnovers and securing crucial rebounds. Riley Gottsponer made a late defensive stand with a block, and Phillips sealed the win with a layup in the final minutes.

Phillips led Texas Wesleyan with 15 points and six rebounds, while Wills contributed 12 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Smith added 11 points, and Hurtado chipped in nine. The Rams forced 17 turnovers and scored 25 points off those mistakes, a key factor in the win.
