FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan University (19-8) defeated Central Christian College of Kansas (10-16) 5-0 in the series opener. The Rams get a victory after their midweek loss to Texas A&M Texarkana.
The Rams were able to keep the Tigers at bay early on with stellar defense and stand out pitching from Seth Wright. The Rams shutout the tigers and shut the door on any opportunity they had. The Tigers had only been shut out 3 times prior to today's contest.
Rams kept runners on the bases, wearing out Tiger's pitcher Nick Julian. The Rams grabbed the lead at the bottom of the fourth inning when Brandon Rincones scored on a wild pitch. Moments later, Brandon Vela ripped a line drive single to score Conner De Leon in the end of the fifth inning.
The seventh inning proved to be much of the same as Idelfonso Garcia put down a sacrifice bunt to score Ryan Kramer, increasing the lead to 3-0 in favor of the Rams. Rody Garcia and Austin Hubbell also contributed RBI singles to score two more to increase the lead to 5-0.
The eighth and ninth, with the help of Seth Wright and reliever Jacob Guzman, saw the Tigers hope of a comeback dwindle away.
Seth Wright picked up the win in today's contest by going eight innings of work and only allowing six hits. That win brings his season record to 4-0.
The Rams return to conference play at Sycamore Park on Saturday with a doubleheader against the Central Christian College of Kansas Tigers. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
