BB: Rams Bats Get Hot in Series Sweep of Tigers

FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan University (21-9) defeated Central Christian College of Kansas (10-18) in both games on Saturday afternoon that aided the Rams to a series sweep of the Tigers.

In game one, the Rams and Tigers had started the game off neck in neck in what looked like it may turn out to be a pitcher's duel.

Tim Escamilla started off the bottom of the third sacrificing his body to get on base. Escamilla then stole second then with the sacrifice out and a walk. Brendon Vela with a shot back to the pitcher got on base and in doing so, scored Escamilla to get the Rams on the board first..

The fifth inning proved to be the beginning of the end for the Tigers as the Rams got hot with back to back multi-run innings. To start the fifth, Escamilla once again found himself in scoring position with Idelfonso Garcia right behind him. Vela once again helped the Rams increase their lead with an RBI single up the middle, Rody Garcia and Ryan Flores also got RBI singles of their own, then a sacrafice fly from Tahir Muelens. Dylan Masanda crushed a two RBI double in the gap to join the hit parade to close out the fifth.

Just one inning later, the Rams picked up right where they left off, as they scored another seven runs to increase their lead to 14. The sixth inning saw several RBI hits as well as some big hits from Masanda and Gabriel Sepulveda. Brandon Rincones ended the inning with an RBI of his own after being an on base machine all day. The Rams won the first contest 14-1 in the end.

The Rams pitching was completed by committee, shutting down the Tigers from a trio of arms in David Theriot, Ty Sansom, and Jacob Guzman. Sansom picked up the win to increase his season win total to two.

In game two, the Rams and tigers remained much closer throughout the game as they matched each other in hits to keep runners on the bases with a few long balls as well.

In the bottom of the third, Vela continued to find himself producing the first run on the board with an RBI single to left field to score I. Garcia to give the Rams an early 1-0 lead. The Rams then scored again on a throwing error to bring around Vela, ending the third inning with a 2-0 Rams lead.

The Tigers got themselves back into range with a home run in the top of the fourth, just a half inning later, Sepulveda crushed a home run of his own, his first on the season, to extend the lead back to two.

To start off the bats in the bottom of the fifth for the Rams, Flores hit a single to right field. Thair Meulens got a nice single to advance Flores to second, with two runners in scoring position, Masanda hit a beauty to center with two RBIs for the Rams. The Rams ended the inning with a sacrafice fly from Sepulveda to increase the lead to 5-1.

The Rams Tigers both added a run of their own in the sixth, but the Rams prevailed with a 6-2 victory.

The Rams only needed one arm as Jorge Carvajal shut the Tigers down as he went seven innings with seven strikeouts to bring his season record to 3-1.

The Rams return to action tomorrow against #1 LSU-Shreveport in a weekday matchup at 1pm at Sycamore Park.
