FORT WORTH – Texas Wesleyan University (22-14, 8-8 SAC) secured its first win in six games with a 10-3 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State University (10-23, 3-13 SAC) on Friday.
The Rams delivered a strong offensive performance, collecting 14 hits, with Jorge Carvajal pitching a complete game to earn the win.
Carvajal (4-2) was in control from the mound, allowing just seven hits and two earned runs while striking out eight over nine innings. His strong performance limited OPSU's scoring opportunities and set the tone for the Rams' bounce-back win.
Oklahoma Panhandle State took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Xavier Garcia's groundout brought in Riku Kusumoto. However, Texas Wesleyan responded in the third inning with a bases-loaded walk by Brendon Vela to tie the game before Ryan Flores' sacrifice fly gave the Rams a 2-1 lead.
The Rams broke the game open in the fifth inning, plating five runs. Vela launched a two-run homer, scoring Brandon Rincones. Marcos Carrion followed with an RBI single, and Ryan Kramer's RBI single extended the lead. Idelfonso Garcia capped the inning with a sacrifice fly, putting Texas Wesleyan ahead 7-1.
In the eighth, the Rams tacked on three insurance runs with RBI contributions from Rody Garcia, Gabriel Supelveda, and Vela, pushing the lead to 10-1. OPSU managed two runs in the ninth but couldn't close the gap.
Vela led the offensive charge, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Garcia, Kramer, and Supelveda also had multi-hit games.
The Rams will close out their series with the Aggies tomorrow at Sycamore Park with a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
