FORT WORTH – Texas Wesleyan University (24-14, 10-8 SAC) dominated both games of a doubleheader against Oklahoma Panhandle State University (10-25, 3-15 SAC) on Saturday at Sycamore Park, securing an 8-0 shutout victory in Game One before completing the sweep with a 6-3 win in Game Two.
The Rams showcased a strong offensive performance in the opener, collecting 13 hits while playing error-free defense. They struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Brandon Rincones drove in Rody Garcia with a sacrifice fly. The offense continued to roll in the second as Idelfonso Garcia delivered an RBI single, followed by a two-run double from Rody Garcia to push the lead to 4-0.
Texas Wesleyan kept the momentum going in the third, with Brendon Vela and Logan Silvertooth launching back-to-back solo home runs to extend the advantage to 6-0. Rincones added another RBI in the fourth, plating Garcia once again, and Ryan Kramer capped the scoring in the fifth with an RBI single.
Samuel Mendez was dominant on the mound, tossing a complete-game shutout. He allowed just three hits while striking out 10 batters and walking one, earning his third win of the season.
In Game Two, Texas Wesleyan jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Rincones sparked the offense with an RBI triple to score Garcia. Vela followed with an RBI double, and Silvertooth added another run-scoring double to give the Rams a quick cushion.
Oklahoma Panhandle State (10-25) responded with a run in the second, but the Rams continued to add to their lead. Jean-Luc Bussieres brought home a run with an RBI single in the third, and Vela recorded a sacrifice fly in the fourth. The Rams' final run came in the sixth when Vela hit his second double of the game to drive in Rincones, making it 6-1.
Seth Wright (5-1) earned the win, pitching three solid innings while allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts. Ty Sansom closed out the game, securing his second save of the season despite allowing two unearned runs in the seventh.
The Rams return to action at Sycamore Park on Tuesday against Our Lady of the Lake at 1 p.m.
