SB: Rams and Aggies Trade Blows in Early Games

GOODWELL, OK – Texas Wesleyan University (7-7) split the opening two games of the series against Oklahoma Panhandle State University (9-7) in the Rams second Sooner Athletic Conference matchup of the year.

In game one, the Rams got off to a hot start with a quick RBI single from Kylie Barnes that scored Ashley Darilek to bring the Rams lead to 1-0 after the first. Just one inning later, Darilek hit a hard single to the right fielder that was then bobbled and that helped the Rams score two more to bring their lead to 3-0.

Unfortunately, that was all she wrote for the Rams, the next two innings were all Aggies as they strung together 17 hits to score 16 runs, eventually winning game one 16-3.

Barnes was tacked with the loss, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits, bringing her season record to 3-4.

In game two, the Aggies were the ones who struck first with a few sacrifice hits in the first to take the lead 2-0. The Rams answered back with a quick score with an RBI double from Abbie Bird as well as a sacrifice fly from Mattee Fry. The Rams piled on another three runs from RBI hits from Barnes and Ally Hinojosa.

The Rams offense was relentless in game two, compiling 15 hits and scoring 18 runs. The Rams ended up winning the contest 18-5 in only six innings.

Everyone was feasting on offense but some serious standouts in this contest were Barnes going five for five from the dish with three RBIs and four runs of her own, Darilek went two for four with four RBIs and four runs of her own as well, Bird and Hinojosa both contributed two hits each, and Kaydnce Crenshaw provided some key points with two hits and two stolen bases to keep herself in scoring position.

Bird picked up the win, bringing her season record to 4-3, her third victory in consecutive games.

The Rams and Aggies face off once again tomorrow at 1pm and 3pm to finish their series.
