FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan University (18-12) split the Friday doubleheader against #3 University of Science & Arts (31-7), the Rams win snaps a 12-game win streak for the Drovers.
In game one, the Drovers struck early with an RBI double to get them on the board. Soon after, an untimely error from
Ashley Darilek allowed the Drovers to go up 2-0. In just the next inning, the Drovers found themselves up 4-0 after a deep shot to right field that went over the fence to score two more.
In the sixth inning the Drovers once again drove a ball over the fence to ultimately win game one 5-0.
The Rams struggled at the plate against the Drovers as they went hit-less in game one.
Abbie Bird took home the loss in the first contest, she allowed 8 hits and 4 earned runs in seven innings of work. The loss lowers her season record to 10-5.
In game two, the Drovers struck first once again with a 2-0 lead coming from scores on another error as well as a fielder's choice. The Drovers in the third inning scored on another fielder's choice to put them up 3-0 in game two. In the Bottom of the third the Rams struck back with a single from
Haylie Delarosa, the Rams first hit on the afternoon.
Ashley Darilek then came to the plate and hit an RBI single to score Delarosa and get the Rams on the board.
In the fourth inning,
Katie Rodriguez got the scoring started with a two RBI single to tie the game at 3, shortly after the Rams scored again with an RBI single from
Mattee Fry as well as another RBI double from Darilek. With the addition of those two runs the Rams took the lead 5-3 and they never looked back.
The Rams defensively looked rough in the beginning with three errors but shored up things to help shut down the Drovers offense.
Kylie Barnes brought home the win by allowing four hits and three runs with five strikeouts over seven innings. The win brings her season record to 9-6
The Rams had a complete 180 from game one, in game two the Rams put together five runs on 12 hits.
The Rams and Drovers return to action tomorrow for a doubleheader at 12pm and 2pm.
