SB: Rams Battle Drovers but Come Up Short

FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan University (18-14) fell to the University of Science and Arts (33-7) in both games on Saturday afternoon. The Rams fell in game one 11-2 in just five innings, game two was much closer with a Rams loss in extra innings with a score of 4-3.

In game one, the Drovers got on the board immediately with a wild pitch to help them score in the top of the first. Later in the fourth inning the Drovers started to do some damage, the inning started off for them with a sacrifice fly, then an RBI triple, and finally an RBI single to take the lead 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth.

In that bottom half of the inning the Rams started to show some fight that started off with EB Zimmerman getting on base to lead off the inning, then just two batters later, Jaelin Ornelas got a hold of one for a two RBI home run to get the Rams within two headed to the fifth.

Unfortunately, as fast as the Rams had gained hope, they had lost it just as quickly, as the Drovers scored seven in the top of the fifth to then shut down the Rams and end the game 11-2 in just five innings.

Abbie Bird took the loss, her first time losing back-to-back games since the beginning of the season. This loss drops her season record to 10-6.

Game two was extremely competitive throughout that saw several swings in both directions. The Rams were the ones to get things started this time as Kylie Barnes ripped an RBI single off the wall to score Ashley Darilek and give the Rams their first lead of the day. That lead was unfortunately short lived as the Drovers answered right back with an RBI hit of their own.

The Drovers scored again in the fourth to bring the game to 3-1. The Rams came close several times but couldn't break through to get the game closer.

Later in the seventh, with runners on second and third, Barnes once again delivered with a two RBI double to score Zimmerman and Darilek to tie the game to eventually send the game to extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, the Drovers got one across to take the lead 4-3. The Rams battled and got close, but ultimately fell short, resulting in the Drovers victory in extra innings.

Barnes was tacked with the loss, with her season record falling to 9-7.

The Rams fell short with a 3-1 series loss, but even with the losses, the Rams remain third in the conference standings.

The Rams return to action this week on the road as they face off against Southwestern Christian on Thursday and Friday.
