FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan University (20-20) dropped two crucial games to Oklahoma City University (41-7) in a Friday doubleheader. A matchup between two of the top three offensive teams in the conference.
In game one, the Stars got things started off early with two quick hits, followed by a sacrifice fly to help the Stars get off to an early 1-0 lead. The Ras tried to answer, but
Kylie Barnes was robbed at the wall that would've put the Rams in front.
The second and third innings saw the Rams and Stars show their defensive prowess as both teams were being kept off the scoreboard until the top of the fourth. The Stars got things going offensively with a lead off solo home run, then followed several hits that resulted in three RBIs to take a 5-0 lead. The Stars in the next inning once again put one over the fence to build upon their lead to make it 6-0.
The Stars scored once again in the seventh, putting three more on the board to take a 9-0 lead. In the bottom of the seventh,
Haylie Delarosa ripped a triple to get things started for the Rams, she was then brought home by
Jaelin Ornelas. Unfortunately, that was all she wrote for the Rams in game one as they fall to the Stars 9-1.
Abbie Bird had the loss as she allowed 11 hits in only 5.2 innings pitched. The loss brings her record to 10-10 on the season.
In game two, the first two innings were almost six up and six down for both teams in a game where it looked as if the game would be a pitcher's duel. The Stars got things started once again as they attempted a double steal and the run at home scored before the tag to help lift the Stars to a 1-0 lead. Just one inning later the Stars ripped a two RBI double, followed up by an RBI single to take a 4-0 lead after four innings.
The Stars compiled four more runs in the sixth and seventh inning to separate themselves from the Rams. Although the Rams put together six hits against the Stars, they couldn't put anyone across and fell to the stars once again 8-0.
Kylie Barnes was given the loss as she gave up six runs on four hits and hit four batters. The loss gives her a record of 11-9 on the season.
The Rams face off against the Stars once again on Saturday at 12pm and 2pm.
