FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan University (20-22) fell as the Oklahoma City University Stars (43-7) swept the Rams in the weekend series. The Rams celebrated five seniors on Saturday afternoon consisting of
Dara Muller,
Jaelin Ornelas,
Alyssa Bates,
Abbie Bird, and
Devin Dunn.
In game one, the Stars were the first ones on the board and never looked back. In the second inning the Stars got on the board with an RBI double followed by a wild pitch to go up 2-0. In the top of the third, the Rams had a couple of costly errors to allow two more runs, then followed up by two hits resulting in multiple RBIs to give the Stars an 8-0 lead. The Stars in the next inning hit four over the fence to eventually win the game 16-0 in only five innings.
Bird took the loss as she allowed 10 runs in only four innings pitched. The loss brings her record to 10-11 on the season.
In game two, the Stars once again went up quickly as they had two RBI singles and a sacrifice fly to go up 3-0 after one inning. The Stars once again kept scoring every inning as they got out to a commanding 6-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth.
The Rams started to get things going offensively as Bates had a sacrifice fly to score
EB Zimmerman, shortly after, Dunn drove in Bird with an RBI single to help close the gap to make the score 6-2. The Stars then hit three consecutive home runs in the sixth and seventh and eventually won 10-2.
Kylie Barnes took home the loss as she allowed seven hits and six runs through three innings. Her record fell to 11-10 on the season.
The Rams return to action Monday against the Evangels of Mid-America Christian in Oklahoma City as they close out the regular season before the Conference tournament starts Thursday afternoon.
