TEXARKANA – Texas Wesleyan University (12-5) split a doubleheader with Texas A&M-Texarkana (6-6) Saturday at the TAMUT Tournament, claiming a 4-1 victory in the opener before falling in a closely contested 3-2 decision in the afternoon match.
The Rams showcased their depth and consistency with four straight-set wins in the first match. The duo of Kali Liva and Victoria Smith set the tone early, earning a 21-18, 21-10 sweep on court one. Emily White and Emily Lewis followed with a dominant 21-17, 21-16 victory, while Reagan Fitzsimmons and Hope Miller (21-18, 21-15) and Grace Pavelka and Audrey Rogers (21-10, 21-17) added wins in the fourth and fifth pairs, respectively. The Rams dropped only one court in the opening match.
Match two saw the Eagles respond with a 3-2 win, though the Rams still delivered competitive performances. Liva and Smith battled for a three-set victory on the top court (21-23, 21-17, 15-7), and Pavelka teamed up with Mayara Swillens for a commanding 21-6, 21-16 win on court five. Despite those victories, TAMUT managed to edge Texas Wesleyan with key wins at the No. 2, 3, and 4 spots.
Texas Wesleyan will now prepare for the conference tournament, to be played March 10–12, with the site and opponents will be announced in the coming days.
