FORT WORTH,TX - Texas Wesleyan University (1-0-0) secured a 1-0 victory over North American University (0-3-0) at Martin Field in Fort Worth, with the decisive goal occurring in the first half.
The first half saw Texas Wesleyan apply consistent pressure with several early attempts, including efforts by
Akacia Robles and
Bailey Clark, though they were thwarted by the North American goalkeeper Arely Sarabia. The breakthrough came in the 43rd minute when
Amelia Roach scored, assisted by Clark, marking Roach's first goal of the season and giving the Rams a 1-0 lead. The Rams' defense remained resilient, with
Ally Kolba making multiple saves to maintain the lead through the end of the half.
The second half began with a strategic lineup for Texas Wesleyan including
Hannah Smith and Clark, setting the stage for a defensive stand. Goalkeeper Smith made crucial saves early and late in the half to maintain the team's lead. Despite several attempts, including shots from
Haley Ellis and Roach, the score remained unchanged, with the Rams holding a 1-0 advantage over North American by the end of the half.
Kolba made six saves and secured a shutout in her 45 minutes as goalkeeper. Roach was pivotal in the match, scoring the only goal, which was also the game-winner, with one of her three shots on target. Clark contributed with an assist and was active offensively with two shots, both on goal.
When asked about how the team did today "1-0 is always a great start, we try to work a lot on switching the field by finding open players and creating shots and I definitely felt that we executed that well". head coach Katie Bond said.
The Rams will travel to Hawkins, TX to take on Jarvis Christian College on Wednesday, August 27 at 5pm.
