VB: Rams Overpower Drovers to Win 3-0

Box Score FORT WORTH - Texas Wesleyan University (6-4, 3-0 SAC) defeated the University of Science and Arts (OK) (8-4, 2-2 SAC) in three sets with scores of (25-20, 25-17, and 25-17). The Rams win their third straight match to move to 3-0 in conference play.

The first set saw the Rams jump out to an early 8-3 lead with the help of a few service aces from Lillian Breaux and Hanna Rubis. The Drovers caught fire as well as they outscored the Rams 8-4 in order to bring the score to 12-11 in favor of the Rams. The set continued to stay close as both teams were trading kills to not let the other have the upper hand. The Rams then found themselves up 22-19 late in the set and were looking to close out the set. With back to back key kills from Vanya Palmeros and Sydney Alexander, the Rams were able to close out the first set with a score of 25-20 and a 1-0 set lead.

Going into the second set, both teams started out very strong offensively, trading blows and staying neck and neck. As the set progressed, the Rams and Drovers found themselves deadlocked at 13-13 at a key point within the set with one team looking to break it open. The Rams proceeded to outscore the Drovers 12-4 and show some serious dominance. The Rams showed strong defensive efforts as they forced the Drover's offense to make some costly mistakes and eventually take the set 25-17. Giving them a 2-0 set advantage.

The third set saw an all out barrage of kills from the Rams to win all of their points, keeping pace with the Drovers. The Rams found themselves down 15-10 with the Drovers looking to separate themselves even more. The Rams proceeded to win long rallies and had a clutch service ace from Breaux to then tie the set at 15-15. The points didn't stop there as the Rams continued to outscore the Drovers 10-2 and take the third set with a score of 25-17. The Rams showed utter dominance down the stretch of the third set to then take the match with a score of 3-0.

Migdaly Bernal led the team with 10 kills, followed by Rubis with nine and Alexander with seven. Ruby Rumohr and Breaux helped aid the attack with a combined 35 assists. Emily Lewis was a force defensively with 14 digs. Bernal and Breaux also added three service aces.

The Rams face off with the Evangels of Mid-America Christian on Saturday, September 13 at 1pm in the Sid Richardson Center.
