FORT WORTH - Texas Wesleyan University (9-4, 6-0 SAC) defeated College of the Ozarks (8-2, 3-2 SAC) in three sets with scores of (25-16, 25-16, and 25-23). The Rams stay undefeated in conference play and extend their win streak to six.
In the first set, the Rams got started early with two service aces from
Sydney Alexander to help build a 5-1 lead to start the set. The Bobcats had some service aces of their own to keep th ematch close with the Rams leading 10-9. The Rams showcased some solid defense, forcing the Bobcats to make some costly hitting errors, and along with the help of
Loes Peijnenburg's great offense, the Rams found themselves up 20-15 with the set in sight. The Bobcats once again had some attack errors to allow the Rams to take the set by a score of 25-16 and take a 1-0 set lead.
The second set began with both teams trading attacks to keep things close early in a 6-5 contest favoring the Rams. The Rams took their opportunity to start creating a gap with the help of kills from
Hanna Rubis,
Lyric Biggiers, as well as Peijnenburg to build a 12-6 lead in the middle of the set. The Rams then used that momentum to take control of the set and not look back, winning 13 of the next 23 points to take the set 25-16.
Victoria Smith had several kills to aid to the Rams dominance in the second set and helped the Rams gain a 2-0 set lead.
In the third set, the Rams and Bobcats once again were dueling early and found themselves deadlocked at 9-9 with one looking to break through. Alexander and Smith helped give the Rams some space to take the lead, but the Bobcats remained close with a score of 15-13. Rubis's serve was on point as she recorded two aces to give the Rams a 20-14 lead with the match victory just a few points away. The Bobcats stormed back with a seven point swing to tie things up at 21-21 with solid blocks. In the final points of the set, the Rams came out on top with a score of 25-23 to sweep the Bobcats 3-0.
Rubis led the Rams with nine kills, followed by Smith and Peijnenburg with six.
Lillian Breaux led the team with 20 assists, followed by
Ruby Rumohr with 13. Biggiers and Alexander each had four blocks to be a defensive force against the Bobcats.
Emily Lewis also aided the Rams defense with 11 digs.
The Rams return to action tomorrow at 1pm in the Sid Richardson Center to face off with the John Brown Golden Eagles.
