FORT WORTH, Texas — Texas Wesleyan University (3-5-4, 1-2-0 SAC) defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State (3-7-0, 0-3-0 SAC) 2-0 on Saturday at Cramer Field. Texas Wesleyan outshot Oklahoma Panhandle State 11-4 and put six shots on goal while allowing two shots on goal in the shutout.
Diogo Stefane converted a penalty kick at 29:34 to open the scoring and put Texas Wesleyan ahead 1-0. Earlier, Texas Wesleyan created the sharper opening push, with
Nestor Salazar forcing saves at :43 and 1:28 around a
Peter Tenorio corner kick, before
Nicholas Duderstadt put another shot on goal in the sixth minute. Texas Wesleyan kept generating chances before the goal, including a
Christobal Garcia shot saved in the 14th minute, a Salazar attempt that went high and a
Chandler Brookins shot that went wide. Oklahoma Panhandle State managed two first-half shots, one blocked and one high, while Texas Wesleyan added a late corner and a
Raul Parga chance before taking the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Texas Wesleyan added to its lead early in the second half, with Duderstadt scoring his sixth goal of the season at 47:19 to make it 2-0. Tenorio helped keep Texas Wesleyan in attacking positions with corner kicks in the 53rd and 75th minutes, and
Nathaniel Neang headed a shot wide right at 74:33. Tyrece Grant added another Texas Wesleyan attempt wide right at 80:17.
Noah Epler-McDonnell handled Oklahoma Panhandle State's best looks of the half, saving shots from Kendrick Lysius-Cherubin at 56:11 and Othman Gherab at 86:13 as Texas Wesleyan finished off a 2-0 win.
Stefane scored the game-winning goal on his lone shot. Duderstadt added an unassisted goal and put both of his shots on goal. Salazar led Texas Wesleyan with three shots, including two on goal. Epler-McDonnell made two saves over 90 minutes and recorded the shutout.
Caio Tazinazzo started in goal and finished with four saves over 65:09. Othman Gherab put his lone shot on goal. Kendrick Lysius-Cherubin also recorded one shot on goal.
