FORT WORTH- Texas Wesleyan University (18-6, 14-5) fell to the University of Science and Arts (9-15, 5-13) by a score of 80-58 on Thursday at the Sid Richardson Center. The Rams struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 8.3% on three-point attempts.
The first half began with Science and Arts capitalizing on a technical foul, as Elijah Burney converted a free throw. Texas Wesleyan briefly took a 2-1 lead through a
Khalil Turner layup at the 19:43 mark. However, the Drovers responded with a 12-1 run, highlighted by Jamouri McCalister's scoring, including fast-break plays. Bryce Cowns extended their lead with a three-pointer at 8:02, contributing to a 43-30 advantage at the end of the half. Despite a late layup by
DaeVeon Scott, the Rams trailed by 13 points.
The second half saw Science and Arts extend its lead to secure a commanding victory over Texas Wesleyan. McCalister made significant contributions with a jumper at the 19:08 mark and a fast-break layup following a steal at 17:49, helping build an early advantage. Texas Wesleyan's Turner answered with a layup and a three-pointer to keep the game within reach. However, the Drovers maintained control, with Mohand Ammad's fast-break layup at 4:51 pushing the lead further. The visitors closed out the half leading 80-58, highlighted by steady free-throw shooting and defensive stops.
Turner led the team with 23 points and collected eight rebounds.
Montez Young, Jr. contributed significantly on the boards with 12 rebounds while adding nine points.
Daniel Oravbiere posted a strong defensive effort with three blocks and also secured 10 rebounds. Scott added seven points and recorded one offensive rebound.
