SB: Rams Split Doubleheader with No. 12 Saints

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Texas Wesleyan University (2-4) faced Our Lady of the Lake University (5-1) in a doubleheader on Friday. The Saints had a dominating win in game one, defeating the Rams 9-0, while the Rams had a bounce back in game two with an 8-5 victory to serve the Saints their first loss of the season.

Game one started with Texas Wesleyan being held scoreless in the first inning, while Our Lady of the Lake capitalized on an error and a sacrifice fly to take an early 1-0 lead. In the second inning, Texas Wesleyan continued to struggle at the plate, with three strikeouts and a walk leaving them scoreless again. Our Lady of the Lake extended its lead with a solo home run by C. Casas, making it 2-0.

The third inning saw Texas Wesleyan's Haylie Delarosa achieve a single, but the team remained unable to score. Meanwhile, Our Lady of the Lake added another run, scoring on an error to lead 3-0. During the fourth inning, Texas Wesleyan was retired in order, while Our Lady of the Lake scored once more with an RBI single from M. Rosales, bringing the score to 4-0.

The fifth inning was decisive for Our Lady of the Lake, as they scored five runs, highlighted by a two-run homer from L. Rocha and a three-run homer from A. Litterio. Texas Wesleyan managed a single by Ally Hinojosa, but the team was unable to bring any runs across the plate, resulting in a final score of 9-0

Hope Grant pitched 4 2/3 innings in the first game, allowing nine earned runs on seven hits, including three home runs and one double. Grant faced 27 batters, walking four and striking out none, completing the game with a total of 94 pitches thrown, 47 of which were strikes. Despite the challenging outing, Grant recorded a complete game on the stat sheet.

In the second game, Texas Wesleyan secured an 8-5 victory over Our Lady of the Lake, highlighted by a decisive six-run sixth inning. Despite both teams collecting nine hits each, the Rams capitalized on their opportunities, recording eight RBIs and not committing any errors in the field.

Texas Wesleyan fell behind early as the Saints scored two runs in the first inning. Alejandro and Gloria both crossed the plate to give the home team an initial lead. The Rams responded in the second inning. Kylie Barnes walked, and KK Moore's single and a subsequent error loaded the bases. Kadynce Crenshaw drove in two runs with a single, leveling the score at 2-2 after the second inning.

In a pivotal sixth inning, the Rams seized control with a six-run outburst. Arieanna Hernandez doubled to start the rally, followed by key hits from Crenshaw, who doubled in two runs, and Delarosa, who contributed an RBI single. Barnes capped the inning with a two-run double, extending the lead to 8-3 after the sixth inning. The Saints attempted a comeback in their half of the sixth, scoring two runs on a double by Casas, but Texas Wesleyan's defense held firm in the seventh, retiring the side in order to secure the victory.

Barnes pitched a complete game for the Rams in the second game, covering seven innings while allowing five earned runs on nine hits. Barnes faced 32 batters, striking out three and walking three, with a total of 106 pitches thrown, 65 of which were strikes. Despite allowing six doubles, Barnes effectively managed the innings, recording nine groundouts and six flyouts.

Crenshaw led the offense in the second game with four RBIs and two hits, including a double. Barnes contributed offensively with two RBIs from a double while also pitching a complete game, striking out three over seven innings. Hernandez recorded two hits and an RBI, highlighted by a double, while Delarosa added to the scoring with an RBI and a hit.
