BB: Rams Sweep in SAC Player of the Week Honors

OKLAHOMA CITY - Brendon Vela and Samuel Mendez of Texas Wesleyan have been named this week's Sooner Athletic Conference Netting Pros Baseball Player of the Week for their performances over the past week, the conference office announced Monday morning.

Vela led the Rams to a 5-0 week, going 6 for 14 at the plate (.429) with six extra-base hits. He had two doubles, a triple and three home runs, drove in 11 runs and scored seven times. He finished the week with 19 total bases, a .467 on-base percentage and a 1.357 slugging percentage.

Other nominees: Raphael Beltre of Wayland Baptist, Royce Florenzano of Southwestern Christian, Henry Garcia of Science and Arts, Alejandro Hernandez of Panhandle State, Cole Krepcik of Mid-America Christian, Brody Tyler of College of the Ozarks and Braedon Ulrich of Central Christian.

Mendez threw a complete-game one-hitter in Texas Wesleyan's 2-0 win over Park-Gilbert. He struck out eight, walked one and posted a 0.33 WHIP with a 0.00 ERA.
