MBB: Rams Fall to No. 8 Lions in Langston

LANGSTON - Texas Wesleyan University (18-8, 14-7 SAC) fell to No. 8 Langston University (22-5, 17-4 SAC) 74-51 on Thursday night. The Rams managed to score 30 points in the paint but were unable to overcome the Lions' 10 three-pointers.

The first half opened with Langston establishing an early lead, as Trey Clarke scored twice from close range to make it 4-0. The Rams struggled to find their rhythm, missing several shots and free throws. Langston extended its advantage to 28-10, with Orlando Thomas contributing with a pair of 3-pointers. However, Khalil Turner and Matt Nero helped narrow the gap with scoring drives, bringing their team within 12 points. At the buzzer, Antonio Lewis hit a 3-pointer to give the Lions a 36-24 lead at the end of the half.

Langston extended its halftime lead with a strong start to the second half, highlighted by Trey Clarke's early 3-pointer and a fast-break bucket from Jaden Williams at the 17:50 mark, pushing its lead to 40-31. The Rams narrowed the gap to 41-36 with a quick offensive burst, including a Montez Young, Jr. 3-pointer assisted by Turner. However, Langston answered with a 13-3 run, capped by an Antonio Lewis 3-pointer at 13:33, extending its lead to 54-39. Langston maintained control through the half, with Orlando Thomas contributing a key offensive rebound and subsequent 3-pointer at 5:35, securing a 64-48 advantage. The home team closed the half effectively, ending with a 74-51 lead after a late 3-pointer by Antonio Lewis.

Turner led the scoring effort with 15 points and collected nine rebounds. Young, Jr. contributed 12 points, converting 5 of 8 from the free-throw line. Nero added nine points while shooting 4 of 9 from the field. DaeVeon Scott finished with three points and three rebounds, providing support on both ends.

The Rams conclude the regular season on Saturday against Central Christian College of Kansas, with the game scheduled to start at 4 p.m in McPherson, KS.
