GOODWELL - Texas Wesleyan University (16-1) secured a decisive victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State University (7-7) with a 15-7 win on Saturday. The visiting team's offense was powered by two home runs and a total of 17 hits.
Jose Rangel set the tone for the Rams in the first inning with a triple to right field, followed by
Jack Erickson's RBI single that brought Rangel home, giving them a 1-0 lead.
In the second inning,
Jonathan Pena singled and advanced around the bases on a wild pitch and steal, scoring on
Giuseppe Buttaci's single. Buttaci also scored on a single by
Idelfonso Garcia, and Erickson added another run with a sacrifice groundout, pushing the score to 4-0.
The Rams extended their lead in the third inning when Brandon Vela doubled and Buttaci's single brought home both Vela and
Jorge Herrera, making it 6-0.
In the fourth inning, Rangel and Erickson scored on a walk and a groundout respectively, giving the visiting team an 8-0 lead before the Aggies scored four runs to close the gap to 8-4.
The Rams added a run in the fifth inning with Rangel scoring on
Endi Jaquez's single, making it 9-4. The Aggies responded with a run, making the score 9-5.
The sixth inning saw the Aggies cut the lead to 9-6 with a sacrifice fly, but the Rams held their lead.
In the seventh inning, Isaac Garcia scored on a single by Jaquez, pushing the lead to 10-6.
The ninth inning was decisive as the visiting team scored five runs. Erickson and Jaquez hit RBI singles, followed by a two-run homer from Vela and a solo shot from Herrera, making it 15-6. The Aggies added a solo home run, ending the game with a 15-7 final score in favor of the Rams.
