FORT WORTH — Texas Wesleyan University (16-3, 3-2 SAC) dropped two games to Mid-America Christian University (13-5, 4-1) with a final score of 4-3 in game one on Friday at Sycamore Park.
Despite a late home run by Texas Wesleyan, Mid-America Christian secured the victory with two decisive runs in the eighth inning.
Texas Wesleyan took an early lead in the third inning when Idelfonso Garcia singled to the pitcher and later scored on a double by Jack Erickson, making it 1-0.
In the sixth inning, Endi Jaquez tripled to left center and scored on a passed ball, increasing the Rams' lead to 2-0. Mid-America Christian responded with a run of their own, as N. Hill scored on a single by T. Cope, bringing the score to 2-1.
Mid-America Christian tied the game in the seventh inning. A double by Sammy Hallada and subsequent RBI single by Julio King allowed a pinch runner to score, making it 2-2.
In the eighth inning, Mid-America Christian's Jesse Ortega hit a two-run homer, putting them ahead 4-2. Texas Wesleyan answered with a solo home run by Jaquez, narrowing the gap to 4-3.
Despite the late rally, the Rams fell to the Evangels with a final score of 4-3.
Michael Pelosi pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out four batters. Pelosi faced 22 batters, walking six, and recorded 91 pitches, with 50 being strikes.
