FORT WORTH — Texas Wesleyan University (17-5, 13-4 SAC) secured an 85-68 victory over Southwestern Christian University (7-15, 5-12 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday.
The Rams capitalized on turnovers, scoring 26 points off the Eagles' 20 turnovers to extend their lead to as much as 21 points in the second half.
The game began with an early surge from Southwestern Christian, as JaColby Williams hit a three-pointer just 13 seconds into the period. Williams continued to lead his team with another three-pointer at the 18:02 mark, helping the Eagles establish a 14-0 lead.
Texas Wesleyan responded with a strong comeback, highlighted by
Khalil Turner's layup at 17:00, narrowing the gap to 14-4. The home team took control later in the half, with
Daniel Oravbiere's dunk at 12:27 bringing them within three points.
The Rams ultimately edged ahead, closing the half with a 47-41 lead after
Matt Nero's free throws with 17 seconds remaining.
Texas Wesleyan extended its lead in the second half, outscoring Southwestern Christian 38-27 to secure a decisive victory.
Montez Young, Jr. contributed significantly with a tip-in at 18:52 and a defensive rebound at multiple key moments.
Daylan Hamilton added to the momentum with a three-pointer at 14:03, part of a scoring surge that saw the Rams pull ahead by 21 points. The Eagles' attempts to close the gap included a late three-pointer by Jonah Jenkins at the 46-second mark, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Turner scored 24 points and collected six rebounds, converting 11 of 15 free throws. Hamilton added 18 points while making four 3-pointers and recording four assists.
Young posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, also contributing two steals. Oravbiere tallied 14 points, secured seven rebounds, and blocked three shots.
The Rams return to action on the road Saturday against Oklahoma City University, with tip-off scheduled for 4 p.m.
