OKLAHOMA CITY — Texas Wesleyan (18-5, 14-4) secured an 83-74 victory over Oklahoma City (15-9, 12-6) on Saturday, propelled by a 51-point first half.
The game commenced with Oklahoma City taking the early lead after SaVaughn Smith scored and completed a three-point play at 19:08. Texas Wesleyan countered with a 3-pointer from
Khalil Turner at 18:32, assisted by
Daylan Hamilton, tying the game at 3-3.
The visitors continued their momentum, with Turner hitting another three-pointer at 16:04 to push the Rams ahead, 10-5. Hamilton extended their advantage with a two-point shot at 11:15, making it 21-13.
The Rams held the lead at halftime, closing the half with two free throws by
Matt Nero, securing a 51-40 advantage.
Turner emerged as a key player in the second half, scoring multiple baskets, including a crucial two-pointer at 13:36 to extend the lead to 67-54.
The Stars attempted to close the gap, with Jonas Carlisle and Smith contributing significant points, but struggled with turnovers and missed opportunities.
Despite a late surge by Oklahoma City, Texas Wesleyan maintained control with key free throws by Jr. Montez Young in the final minutes. The visiting team secured an 83-74 victory, holding off the Stars' efforts to rally in the closing moments.
Turner led the offensive effort with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
DaeVeon Scott contributed 11 points, including two 3-pointers, and added two assists. Hamilton posted 14 points while recording two steals. Young collected 10 rebounds, complementing his eight points on the floor.
The Rams return to action Thursday in the Sid Richardson Center against the University of Science & Arts in Oklahoma, with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m.
