MESQUITE, Texas — Texas Wesleyan University (1-3) faced two challenging defeats on Sunday at the SCS Invitational, falling to Texas A&M Texarkana University (2-2) 19-5 and then to Cottey College (1-2) 8-4 in neutral-site matchups.
In the game against Texas A&M Texarkana, Texas Wesleyan struggled to maintain momentum after a promising fifth inning. The Rams managed to score three runs in that inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from
Kylie Barnes, narrowing the score to 7–5. However, the Eagles responded with a decisive 12-run sixth inning, fueled by five doubles throughout the game, ultimately sealing a 19-5 victory. Texas A&M Texarkana took an early lead in the first inning with three runs, including an RBI double by K. Walker and an RBI single by P. Humphrey. Texas Wesleyan's
Rachet Houston scored on an error, ending the first trailing 3–1. The Rams' defense held strong in the second inning, but the Eagles extended their lead to 5–1 by the third, and then to 7–2 in the fourth despite Texas Wesleyan's
Arieanna Hernandez scoring on a single by

Hope Grant started on the mound for Texas Wesleyan, pitching one inning and allowing three earned runs on three hits with two walks and was given the loss, bringing her record to 1-1 on the season.
Reagan Avants pitched three innings, giving up four runs on five hits with five walks and one strikeout, while
Jacey Power made a brief appearance, allowing two earned runs in just 1/3 of an inning. Offensively, Houston had a standout performance with two runs and two stolen bases, while Barnes drove in three runs with her home run. Peyton. Blanco and Hernandez also contributed effectively to the team's scoring efforts.
Later in the day, Texas Wesleyan faced Cottey College and started strong defensively, only allowing one hit in the first inning. They took the lead in the second with a two-run burst;
Ally Hinojosa scored on a single by
KK Moore, followed by Power crossing home after a single by Houston, putting the Rams ahead 2-1. However, Cottey answered in the bottom of the second and regained the lead in the third with two runs, making it 3-2. Texas Wesleyan's Blanco tied the game with a solo home run in the fifth, but Cottey quickly regained control, scoring four runs in the same inning, including back-to-back home runs by M. Snyder and G. Taylor, extending their lead to 8-3.
In the sixth inning,
Haylie Delarosa brought
Katie Rodriguez home with a single, bringing the score to 8-4. Despite a late effort with a double from Barnes and a walk from
Mattee Fry in the seventh, the Rams could not capitalize further, and the game concluded with Cottey securing the win.
Reagan Avants pitched one inning against Cottey, allowing four earned runs on four hits, including two home runs. Grant followed, pitching 1 2/3 innings, yielding only one hit and one walk, while not allowing any runs. Offensively, Blanco contributed with a home run and an RBI, while Delarosa went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Hinojosa added two hits, including a double, and Houston recorded a hit and a walk, adding an RBI and a stolen base to her performance.
The Rams travel to San Antonio next weekend as they take on Our Lady of the Lake on Friday, February 13 in a double header.
