BB: Rams Sweep Drovers to Keep Streak Alive

FORT WORTH  — Texas Wesleyan University (23-4, 9-3 SAC) secured a 10-6 victory over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (8-14, 5-7 SAC) on Saturday at Sycamore Park. Endi Jaquez contributed significantly with a home run, helping the Rams achieve their 15-hit performance.

Texas Wesleyan opened strong, taking a 2-1 lead in the first inning. Jaquez and Jorge Herrera each singled and advanced on stolen bases, setting the stage for Jack Erickson's two-RBI single. The score stood at 2-1 after the first inning.

In the third inning, Texas Wesleyan extended its lead to 4-1. Jose Rangel and Brendon Vela led off with singles, followed by a sacrifice groundout by Jaquez. Herrera then delivered a two-RBI double down the left field line, bringing in Rangel and Vela.

Science and Arts responded in the fourth inning, scoring four runs to take a 5-4 lead. Sammy Chapman and Alfonso Camacho contributed with RBI singles, while Connor Martin added a two-RBI single to center.

Texas Wesleyan regained control in the sixth inning, scoring three runs to move ahead 7-5. Jonathan Pena tripled and scored on a passed ball, followed by RBI hits from Daniel Hernandez and Rangel.

In the seventh inning, Science and Arts managed to score a single run on a sacrifice fly, narrowing the gap to 7-6.

The eighth inning saw Texas Wesleyan seal the game by scoring three additional runs. Giuseppe Buttaci walked and scored on a single by Rangel, followed by a two-RBI home run from Vela, which extended the lead to 10-6.

The Rams secured the victory with a final score of 10-6 over Science & Arts.

Jose Casado started for Texas Wesleyan, pitching 4 2/3 innings while allowing eight hits and five earned runs, striking out five batters and walking two. Ty Sansom provided relief with 2 1/3 innings, giving up just one hit and one earned run, while striking out one and issuing no walks, earning his first win of the season. Luka Zakman contributed one inning of work, allowing one hit and no runs, with one strikeout and one walk. Noah Huerta closed out the game with a perfect inning, inducing three groundouts on 11 pitches to maintain a clean sheet in his appearance.

Rangel posted three hits and drove in two runs, contributing two runs scored and adding seven assists in the field. Vela tallied a home run among his two hits, scoring two runs and collecting two RBIs. Herrera recorded three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs while scoring once. Hernandez came off the bench to deliver a pinch-hit single, scoring once and stealing a base.

The Rams will next play at home on Tuesday against No. 1 Louisiana State University - Shreveport at 2 p.m.
