SB: Rams Lose Close Contests to Stars

OKLAHOMA CITY - Texas Wesleyan University (13-14, 7-7 SAC) fell in both contests in a Friday doubleheader to Oklahoma City University (21-3, 10-0 SAC) with the first one ending 3-0 and the second going to extra innings with the Stars winning 12-11.

In Game One, it was a pitchers duel as Kylie Barnes made it difficult for any of the Stars to get any momentum offensively. The Rams were able ot get runners into scoring position in both the second and third innings, but were unable to convert.

The Stars got things started with a two run home run in the bottom of the fourth to give the Stars an early lead. The Rams only recorded one hit after the fourth and fell behind even more with another Stars home run in the bottom of the sixth. The Rams and Stars both had great games from the mounds in the first contest as there was only a total of three runs in the game.

Kylie Barnes had her three game winning streak snapped as she allowed three runs on six hits with five strikeouts in six innings pitched.

In Game Two, it was a completely different game as it was nothing but offense from both teams.

The Rams got things started early with a Haylie Delarosa triple on the first at bat of the game, quickly followed by an RBI from Arieanna Hernandez with two singles from Barnes and Payton Blanco. KK Moore was walked to drive in a run and give the Rams a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the first. The Stars responded with a solo home run to cut the lead down to one going into the second.

Going into the second and third, the Rams started pouring it on as Rachet Houston drove in a run with an RBI triple and Hernandez drove in another to extend the Rams lead going into the third. Moore scored off a wild pitch, followed by RBI hits from Christina Jackson and Delarosa to give the Rams a commanding 7-1 lead going into the bottom of the third.

The Stars battled back as they closed the gap to 8-7 going into the fifth, but that was answered with two more runs from the Rams as Hernandez and Barnes both had sacrifice flies to give the Rams a 10-7 lead going into the final innings and looking for a win over the number four ranked team in the country.

The Stars battled back once again, scoring three in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings tied at 10. The Rams started the scoring in the eighth with Moore driving in a run off a sacrifice fly. Unfortunately that was answered with two runs for the Stars in the bottom of the eighth to come from behind and win the game 12-11 in eight innings.

The game was all offense as the teams combined for 23 runs on 28 hits and only three errors. Every starter for the Rams recorded a hit in the contest with Delarosa, Hernandez, Hope Grant, and Katie Rodriguez all having a multi-hit game.

The Rams return to action tomorrow as they take on the Stars again with a doubleheader again at 12pm and 2pm.
