SB: Rams Overwhelmed in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY — Texas Wesleyan University (13-16, 7-9 SAC) faced off against Oklahoma City University (23-3, 12-0 SAC) in a doubleheader on Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium, suffering losses in both games. 

In Game One, the game opened quietly, with both teams scoreless through the first two innings. However, in the third inning, Oklahoma City capitalized on a series of errors and timely hits. Hadley Gibson reached on an error, and Tara Hoehner's single brought in the first run. Gabby Moreno's two-RBI single extended Oklahoma City's lead to 3-0 by the end of the third inning.

Oklahoma City increased its advantage in the fourth inning with Analise Rayburn's double bringing in two runs, followed by Kaiden Spidell's RBI single, pushing the score to 6-0. The Stars added two more runs in the fifth inning with Gibson's double and Iliana Ashford's single, concluding the game with an 8-0 victory.

Reagan Avants pitched 2 innings for Texas Wesleyan, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits with 1 walk and 1 strikeout. Avants faced 13 batters and threw 42 pitches, 26 of which were strikes, resulting in a WHIP of 3.00. Haylie Delarosa recorded two hits including a double, while Kylie Barnes pitched 2 2/3 innings without allowing earned runs. Payton Blanco demonstrated defensive strength with three assists at shortstop, and KK Moore contributed with a hit and an assist at third base.

In Game Two of the doubleheader, Texas Wesleyan fell to Oklahoma City again, this time by a score of 9-1. The Lady Rams (13-16, 7-9 SAC) managed only one run while the Stars (23-3, 12-0 SAC) capitalized on a five-run second inning to secure the win. 

The Stars took an early lead in the second inning as Carlee Mollet scored on a walk with the bases loaded, followed by a grand slam from Analise Rayburn, ending the inning with Oklahoma City ahead 5-0. Texas Wesleyan responded in the third inning with Kadynce Crenshaw doubling to center field and scoring on a catcher's error, making it 5-1.

Oklahoma City extended their lead in the fourth inning with four additional runs. Iliana Ashford scored on an error, and Gabby Moreno and Jessica Phares contributed with RBIs, bringing the score to 9-1 before the game concluded.

Hope Grant started the game for Texas Wesleyan, pitching 1 2/3 innings and allowing five earned runs on one hit, including a home run, while issuing six walks. Grant faced 13 batters and threw 65 pitches, with 30 strikes, resulting in a WHIP of 5.83. Reagan Avants relieved Grant, pitching 1 2/3 innings as well, giving up four earned runs on four hits with three walks, also recording a WHIP of 5.83.

Ally Hinojosa recorded a double and a hit for an OPS of 1.500, while Mattee Fry added a pinch-hit single. Crenshaw not only scored a run but also hit a double, posting an OPS of 1.500. Arieanna Hernandez contributed on the mound, pitching 2/3 inning without allowing a hit.

The Rams travel to Langston, OK next weekend as they take on Langston University starting on March 27 with a doubleheader at 2pm and 4pm.
