FORT WORTH, TX - Texas Wesleyan University tennis has a solid showing in their senior weekend, first battling Texas A&M-Texarkana, followed by Colin County Community College.
The Men unfortunately lost both as they faced off with RV Texas A&M-Texarkana and then fell in several close matches with Colin County, the women started the weekend with an upset over No. 23 Texas A&M-Texarkana, followed by another solid win over Collin County.
Men's Results
TXWES vs Texas A&M-Texarkana
Texas Wesleyan dropped the doubles point after Texas A&M Texarkana secured victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Matias Penaranda and Jose Rodrigues defeated Wil Bayliss and
Alejo Zurmendi, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles, and Lawson Swain and Fedir Zalievskyi overcame
Ahmed Elkassas and Malte Sommer, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles. The match at No. 3 doubles featuring
Carson Lajone and
Alejandro Capilla Aparicio against Marc Gonzalez Molina and Alvaro Tormo Lopez was left unfinished at 5-5.
In singles play, Texas A&M Texarkana clinched the overall match with wins in the first three completed singles matches. Zalievskyi defeated Zurmendi, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2 singles to open the singles scoring. Penaranda then took a straight-sets victory over Sommer, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. Gonzalez Molina secured the clincher for the Eagles by defeating Elkassas, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 singles.
The remaining singles matches were either incomplete or left on court, with Bayliss and Sebastian Romanos tied at one set each when play was suspended at No. 1 singles, and Capilla Aparicio's match against Rodrigues at No. 5 singles was also left unfinished. Texas A&M Texarkana concluded with a 4-0 victory over the Rams.
TXWES vs Collin County Community College
Texas Wesleyan secured the doubles point with victories across all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Wil Bayliss and
Alejo Zurmendi defeated Philippe Dau and Niko Nadali from Collin County, 6-3. The No. 2 doubles pair, Malte Sommer and
Ahmed Elkassas, clinched the point with a tight 7-6(4), 7-6(7) win over Boitshepo Maake and Santiago Martinez. The No. 3 doubles match was determined by default, with
Carson Lajone and
Alejandro Capilla Aparicio winning for the Rams.
In singles play, Collin County quickly leveled the dual match and ultimately took control. Niko Nadali defeated Bayliss 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Philippe Dau overcame Zurmendi 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, bringing the overall score to 2-1 in favor of Collin County. Malte Sommer secured a point for the Rams at No. 3 singles, winning 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(10-7) against Ander Huelamo.
However, Collin County clinched the match with additional wins at No. 4 singles, where Boitshepo Maake defeated Elkassas 6-4, 6-4, and at No. 5 singles, where Santiago Martinez overcame
Alejandro Capilla Aparicio 6-3, 6-1. The final singles match at No. 6 was defaulted, concluding with Lajone winning by default. The final dual score was 5-2 in favor of Collin County.

Texas Wesleyan secured the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches.
Paulina Hudson and Zep Ege posted a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles over Ana Gonzalez and Lucia Siddens. The momentum continued as
Kaja Brunzlow and
Carla Arce Fernandez clinched the point with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Emmanouela Besi and Adrianne Guangko. Despite a setback at No. 3 doubles where
Shelby Standokes and Mica Magday fell 6-2 to Andrea Castillo and Zahra Dreyer-Ferreira, the Rams emerged with the doubles advantage.
In singles play, Texas Wesleyan and Texas A&M Texarkana each captured three matches, resulting in a tightly contested affair. Gonzalez gave the Eagles their first singles point with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Ege at No. 1 singles. Siddens added another point for Texas A&M Texarkana, defeating Hudson 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. However, Magday responded for Texas Wesleyan by overcoming Dreyer-Ferreira at No. 3 singles with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 win.
Besi further extended Texas A&M Texarkana's tally with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Arce Fernandez at No. 4 singles. Texas Wesleyan then leveled the overall score as Brunzlow defeated Castillo 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
Mai Tsushima secured the decisive point for Texas Wesleyan with a straight-set win at No. 6 singles, defeating Guangko 6-3, 6-2, clinching the dual match at 4-3 for the Rams.

Texas Wesleyan secured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Magday followed up at No. 3 singles, securing a 6-4, 6-0 win against Nobuhle Zungu to bring the dual score to 3-0. Collin County responded at No. 1 singles, where Marqaylar Tere defeated Ege in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).
Texas Wesleyan clinched the match at No. 4 singles with Arce Fernandez overcoming Nao Watanabe, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4). Brunzlow added another point for the Rams at No. 5 singles, defeating Mii Naito, 6-3, 6-3. The final singles match at No. 6 was left unfinished between
Meghan Connoly and Emma Garcia. The Rams concluded the day with a 5-2 victory over Collin County Community College.
