FORT WORTH — Texas Wesleyan defeated Texas College 4-0 on Friday at Martin Field. The Rams held Texas College without a shot while putting 12 of their 15 attempts on goal.
The Rams turned early pressure into a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, when
Kennedy Green scored at 9:59. The Rams had already created chances through
Maribel Vargas,
Sydney Chavez and
Sahara Gipson, with Vargas taking two early corner kicks and Chavez forcing a save from Texas College goalkeeper Danyelle. The Rams kept pressing after the goal, adding another corner at 10:02 and putting shots on frame from
Jimena Aguilar, Chavez and Gipson before the midway point of the half. The Rams closed the half with more pressure, including a
Heaven Villegas corner and late saved shots by Aguilar, Chavez and
Addison Hanner, while Texas College was not credited with a shot. The Rams carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Rams added three goals in the second half, with Hanner scoring twice in 2:20 to move the lead from 1-0 to 3-0. Earlier, Gipson put a shot on goal in the 56th minute, but Texas College made the save to keep the margin at one. Hanner broke through at 59:06 and scored again at 61:26, giving the Rams control of the scoreline despite a yellow card to Green later in the half. Chavez capped the half at 80:29 off an assist from
Amelia Roach, and the Rams finished off a 4-0 win.
Hanner scored twice and put all three of her shots on goal. Green recorded the game-winning goal on her only shot. Chavez scored and led the Rams with four shots, all on goal. Roach added an assist.
The Rams will next play against Texas A&M University San Antonio on Monday, with the match slated to strated to start at 1 p.m.
