ALEXANDRIA, La. — Texas Wesleyan University (3-4-1) lost to LSU Alexandria (5-3-1) 3-0 on Saturday. Texas Wesleyan was held to four shots, all in the first half, while its goalkeeper recorded nine saves against 23 shots.
Texas Wesleyan went into halftime down 2-0 after LSU Alexandria broke through twice in the final 20 minutes of the first half. Earlier, Texas Wesleyan withstood an extended early stretch from LSU Alexandria, with
Adriaa Hardy saving Paula Suarez shots at 11:34 and 17:51 to keep the match scoreless. Texas Wesleyan also forced Meike van Straten into saves on attempts by
Amelia Roach at 12:14,
Maribel Vargas at 20:34 and
Sahara Gipson at 26:25. LSU Alexandria moved in front on Sara Escribano Garcia-Miguel's goal from Ava Little at 25:42, then added another Escribano Garcia-Miguel goal at 34:26 off an Abril Cobos assist before Texas Wesleyan's final first-half look, Roach shot that went wide at 43:24.
Texas Wesleyan faced sustained LSU Alexandria pressure in the second half, with the only goal of the half coming at 68:36 when Annick van Pijkeren scored off Carolina Anjos Pereira's assist to make it 3-0. Earlier, Hardy saved Ariana Lowenstein's shot in the opening minute of the half, and Texas Wesleyan later navigated a 56:20-65:29 stretch that included four LSU Alexandria shots and three corners without conceding. After the goal, Texas Wesleyan again held through a long defensive stretch from 75:38 to 87:23, blocking multiple attempts and getting two more Hardy saves on shots by Emma Kate Rogers. LSU Alexandria added one more shot in the final minute, but Texas Wesleyan kept the score there as the match ended in a 3-0 loss.
Hardy recorded nine saves over 90 minutes in goal. Roach led Texas Wesleyan with two shots, putting one on frame.
The Rams return home next week as they take on LeTourneau on Wednesday, September 23 at 6pm.
