SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — Texas Wesleyan University (2-4-4, 0-1-0 SAC) lost to No. 13 John Brown (Ark.) (5-1-1, 1-0-0 SAC) 2-0 on Saturday. The Rams were limited to four shots and two shots on goal while facing 16 shots, including eight on frame.
The Rams created the first chances of the half, getting a
Rudy Gonzalez header on frame in the opening minute before
Henrique Soares sent a shot high in the seventh minute. No. 13 John Brown (Ark.) went in front at 13:07 on a goal by Constantin Bauer off an assist from Amaury Jarry, leaving the Rams to chase the match.
Noah Epler-McDonnell kept the margin at one with saves in the 29th and 37th minutes, and the Rams also blocked attempts as John Brown continued to press. In the final six minutes, the Rams absorbed another push, blocking two shots while Epler-McDonnell added saves at 42:35 and 44:05 to send the Rams into halftime trailing 1-0.
The Rams withstood early second-half pressure while the match was still 1-0, navigating a Jaksa Pantic shot, three No. 13 John Brown (Ark.) corner kicks and an Epler-McDonnell save on Wyatt Marksberry through the 58:27 mark. The Rams pushed back with two chances in a four-minute span, as
Rudy Gonzalez missed wide in the 65th minute and
Nestor Salazar forced a defensive save from Ignacio Abarca at 68:32. No. 13 John Brown (Ark.) kept creating looks later in the half, and Chriss Salinas scored off a Ransford Okyere assist at 82:55 to make it 2-0. Epler-McDonnell added another save on Salinas in the final minute, but the Rams could not cut into the deficit before the match ended at 2-0.
Epler-McDonnell recorded six saves over 90 minutes in goal, including four in the first half.
Rudy Gonzalez led the Rams with two shots and put one on goal.
Constantin Bauer scored the game-winning goal and put both of his shots on frame. Chriss Salinas added a goal on two shots, both on goal. Ransford Okyere recorded an assist and led John Brown with four shots. Juan Almanza played all 90 minutes in goal and was credited with a shutout while making one save.
The Rams stay on the road as they travel to Waxahachie, TX to take on Nelson University on Tuesday, September 29 at 7:30pm.
