FORT WORTH, Texas — Texas Wesleyan University (0-3-1) lost to A&M-Victoria (2-0-1) 4-1 on Thursday at Martin Field. The Rams generated seven of their nine shots in the second half, and their goalkeeper made all eight saves after halftime.
The Rams went into halftime down 1-0 after A&M-Victoria's Robert Castaneda scored at 24:24 off an assist from Aidan Etuazim. Earlier, the Rams created an early chance when
Arcel Zambrano hit the post at 8:47, and
Jesus Rodriguez served in a corner kick at 12:26. After the goal, the Rams continued to generate set-piece opportunities, with Rodriguez taking another corner at 29:25 and
Diogo Stefane adding one at 38:41.
Peter Tenorio put a shot high at 45:00, and A&M-Victoria carried the 1-0 lead into the break.
A 3-0 deficit came early in the second half for the Rams after Brayan Lino scored for A&M-Victoria at 48:13 and again at 48:19. The Rams responded with a corner from
Jesus Rodriguez and a wide shot by
Victor Gonzalez before
Walter Palacios finished a
Chandler Brookins assist at 57:48 to make it 3-1. After Daniel Menyoli scored at 63:11 to push A&M-Victoria ahead 4-1, the Rams continued to create chances, including a saved shot by
Leonardo Coronado, a high attempt from
Henrique Soares and a late stretch with Tenorio forcing a save,
Nicholas Duderstadt taking two shots and Tenorio serving a corner.
Alex Orellana, who entered in goal at 55:00, made seven saves in the second half and helped the Rams get through A&M-Victoria's late pressure, including three corners in the final 68 seconds. The match ended with A&M-Victoria ahead 4-1.
Palacios scored the Rams' goal, putting his lone shot on frame. Brookins recorded the assist. Orellana made seven saves in 35 minutes in goal.
Brayan Lino scored twice and put all three of his shots on goal. Robert Castaneda added a goal on two shots, both on frame. Daniel Menyoli converted his lone shot for a goal. Johnny Perla recorded an assist and put his only shot on goal.
The Rams stay home next week as they take on Huston-Tillotson on Tuesday, September 8 at 7pm.
