Lady Rams Win in N'Awlins

NEW ORLEANS, LA:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (2-1) took a 66-56 win at the University of New Orleans (0-1) on Saturday.
 
In the first half, the Lady Rams stymied the Privateers to 22.2% shooting from the floor, while Octavia Mullins threw in 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  Brittany White opened the contest with a three-pointer and the Lady Rams jumped out to a 10-2 lead.  UNO closed the gap to three points at 19-16, but the Rams outscored the Privateers 20-6 in the final eight minutes to go to the locker room with a healthy 39-22 lead.
 
In the final five minutes of regulation, UNO briefly cut the margin to single digits on three occasions.  However, the Lady Rams answered all three times and the issue was never in doubt.
 
For the game, the Rams shot 35.7% from the floor while holding UNO to 29.4%.  The Lady Rams dominated the glass, holing a 60-46 advantage.  The Texas Wesleyan bench also outscored the UNO reserves 23-9.
 
Mullins continued her hot start to the season, finishing with 14 points and 20 rebounds.  She reached 20 rebounds, one shy of the school’s single game record, for the second time in her career.  Through three games, the senior out of Hoover, AL, is averaging 16.7 points and 17 rebounds per game.
 
Kayla McCray finished with 12 points and six rebounds, while Krsiti Alexander came off the bench to add 12 and six as well.
 
The Privateers were led by Mirjam Sipos’ 20 points, while Yosha Watson contributed a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
 
The Lady Rams will return to action on November 21, in their home opener.  Texas Wesleyan will host Ecclesia College in the Sid Richardson Center.  That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
