Lady Rams Show No Trouble With Bacone

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (15-16, 5-4 RRAC) notched a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-19) match win over Bacone College (8-20, 2-7 RRAC) in the final home game of the season honoring the Lady Rams’ parents at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday afternoon. 

The Lady Rams came out poised in the first set putting up solid hitting numbers with .275. Wesleyan took 15 kills with four errors and 40 attempts in a dominating 25-15 first set win.

The Lady Warriors made more it more of a game in the second set, challenging the Lady Rams by coming but from a 9-2 deficit to make it a 9-8 set, but were stalled by errors and Wesleyan defense. The Lady Rams took control of the game with a kill by Bailey Bunting to make it an 18-10 game. Bacone hinted at a few runs but could not sustain a rally, falling 25-17.  

The Lady Warriors kept the third set within reach in the third set until a 5-1 Lady Ram run capped by a Meghan Finley kill helped Wesleyan to 17-10 advantage. The Lady Warrior made some adjustments after a timeout, helping them cut the lead to 17-15.  Lady Rams fought back and closed the door led by Katherine Rosenbusch who had two kills in the last five points of the match and threw down the game winner as Texas Wesleyan took care of Bacone 25-19 in the deciding third set.

“It was a good win.” commented head coach Christy Clawson, “We eliminated the errors and I’m proud of our girls for staying focused. We’re going to try and keep this going and gear up for the conference tournament.” 

Rosenbusch led all players with 12 kills, no errors in 17 attempts, hitting .706 for the match. Lynsay Buell followed with 11 kills, only two errors in 25 attempts, hitting .360 for the match. Angelica Arroyo posted 35 assists in the win. Marissa Rangel nabbed 14 digs in the match.

The Lady Rams will play in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament on November 11-12 hosted by UT-Brownsville in Brownsville, TX. Tournament schedule TBA.
