HAWKINS, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (6-6, 4-3 RRAC) took an 8-0 win at Jarvis Christian College (2-6, 2-5) in game one of a three-game Red River Athletic Conference series on Friday.
Vincent Winter got the game started on the right foot, leading off the game with a home run.
The Rams got a sac fly from
Eric Epperson and an RBI single from
Joseph Lassiter in the third inning. A two-run homer from Lassiter pushed the score to 5-0.
Texas Wesleyan broke out the long ball again in the seventh.
Chris Arocha led off with a solo shot. Two batters later,
Justin Snider hit a two-run bomb to cap the scoring at 8-0.
Three Texas Wesleyan pitchers combined on a six hits shutout.
Derek Vaughn worked the first two innings, striking out two and allowing just two hits.
Nolan Barbee (1-2) picked up the win with five innings of relief work. Barbee struck out seven while allowing two hits.
Nicolas Jans worked the final two innings, striking out three and allowing two hits.
Seven Rams recorded at least two hits as Texas Wesleyan touched up Jarvis for 17 hits on the day. Snider went 3-for-3 with a double, home run, and two RBI. Arocha went 3-for-5 at the plate. Lassiter went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
The two teams will wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday. Game one is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
