HAWKINS, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (7-7, 5-4 RRAC) took a 10-6 win before falling 7-5 to Jarvis Christian College (3-7, 3-6 RRAC) on Saturday afternoon.
In game one, the Rams got off to a hot start with two home runs from Chris Arocha and Justin Padron to take an early 3-0 lead in the first.
The Rams hit a streak again this time in the fourth inning. Vincent Winter got the Rams started with a two-run home run, and Eric Epperson continued the rally with another two-run home run. Padron followed with another homer to right center to put the Rams up 9-0 in a five-run, six-hit inning.
The Bulldogs tried to make the improbable comeback with two home runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 9-3.
Jarvis struck again, picking up one run off of a homer over the left center fence, and two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 10-6 Ram lead. Patrick Stanley and Wesleyan and shut the door on the Bulldogs and took game one 10-6.
Colton Farrar (1-1) picked up the win, tossing five innings. He gave up three runs (all earned), on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Patrick Stanley picked up his fourth save of the early season.
Winter went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, Arocha went 3-for-4 two homers and two RBI. Taylor Jockers went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Padron went 2-for-3 with a home run and a pair of RBI.
In game two, the Rams scored a run in the first inning off a Stephen Niedwiecki RBI double to take a 1-0 lead after a half inning.
Jarvis took the lead in the bottom of the first, mostly due to a shaky start by the Rams. The Bulldogs picked up a run off of a 6-3 ground ball and another off a wild pitch, to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead after one inning.
Wesleyan recaptured the lead in the sixth inning with a Jockers two-run home run to give the Rams a 3-2 advantage.
Jarvis came up big in the bottom of the eighth. With back-to-back walks to start the inning, Cartagena hit an RBI double, Thomas hit a two RBI single, and Shackleford hit an RBI single to lift the Bulldogs to a 7-3 lead.
The Rams fought back and picked up two in the bottom of the ninth but could not secure the comeback, dropping game two 7-5.
The Rams play SAGU in Waxahachie, TX, on Friday, March 4, at 6:00 p.m. The Rams finish the series on the Saturday, March 5, in Waxahachie with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
