FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (22-12) suffered a 4-2 loss to the University of Dallas (17-6) at LaGrave Field on Wednesday.
The game did not start as planned for Texas Wesleyan. The Crusaders sent six men to the plate before the Rams recorded the first out of the game. Still, the Rams managed to minimize the damage done by two hits, two errors, and three walks, holding Dallas to three runs in the top of the first inning.
Joseph Lassiter led off the second inning with a sharp single to left and got the Rams on the board when he later scored on a wild pitch.
Eric Epperson doubled and scored in the fourth to pull Texas Wesleyan within a run at 3-2.
Dallas loaded the bases with one out in the top of the sixth. The Crusaders ran into out number two after missing on a squeeze bunt attempt but did score one run on a wild pitch before
Nolan Barbee could work out of the jam.
The Rams loaded the bases with one down in the sixth, but Michael Schweiss came on in relief for the Crusaders and got a strikeout and a ground ball to get out of the inning.
Schweiss was able to hold the Rams scoreless the rest of the way, picking up his third save of the season with 3.2 scoreless innings. Philip Carkhuff (6-2) earned the win after allowing two runs, one earned on five hits in 5.1 innings.
Colton Farrar fell to 3-3 on the season with the loss. Epperson went 2-for-4 at the plate for Texas Wesleyan.
The Rams will return to action this weekend when they host Wiley College in a three-game Red River Athletic Conference series. Friday’s opener is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start at LaGrave Field with Saturday’s doubleheader set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
