FORT WORTH, TX:  In a rematch of Saturday’s Texas Wesleyan University (15-3, 10-2 RRAC) vs. Langston University (5-13, 5-8) Red River Athletic Conference men’s basketball contest, the Rams prevailed once again on Monday.  This time Texas Wesleyan claimed victory by a final score of 88-64.

While Eric Frederick played just 13 minutes due to foul trouble in the first half, the Rams struggled to just 36% shooting in the opening salvo.    The Rams still managed to keep the Lions at bay, but an offensive put-back from LU’s David Harris and a layup at the buzzer from Clayton Emil made it a narrow one-point (33-32) lead at the break.

The second half was an entirely different story.  The Rams hit at a 69% clip from the field while drilling 5-of-7 (71.4%) three-point attempts.  Frederick knocked down back-to-back triples during a 10-0 run that put the Rams in the driver’s seat at 67-59.  Texas Wesleyan left no doubt by holding Langston scoreless for the final 5:53 of the game, while tossing in 14 on the offensive end.

For the game, the Rams outshot the Lions 54%-44% from the field and 35%-33% from distance.  Texas Wesleyan also hit 24-of-31 (77%) at the free throw line while Langston managed just 6-of-11 (55%).  The Rams blitzed the Lions for 21 fast break points, while forcing 19 turnovers that led to 20 points.

“I thought this was a great team win,” head coach Terry Waldrop said.  “Oscar Griffin played tremendously well and we got great contributions from Chris Britt-Black, Stephane Mudiay, and Jazz Holman.  It was a good team win after a tough first half.  We came out in the second half, set the tempo, and were able to get the things done we needed to get done.”

Griffin led all scorers with 27 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists.  Frederick finished with 21 points in just 26 minutes.  Ronnie Moss added 15 points and eight assists, while Mudiay posted 10 points.  Britt-Black contributed eight points and seven rebounds as well.

The Lions were led by Nate Barfield’s 17 points and seven rebounds.  Kevin Caruthers knocked down five three-pointers for 15 points in the loss.

The Rams will return to action when they host LSU-Shreveport in Saturday’s Clifford Classic.  That game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
