#17 Saints Top #6 Rams

SAN ANTONIO, TX:  The sixth ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (10-3, 5-2 RRAC) suffered a 120-98 loss at seventeenth ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (11-3, 8-0) on Monday.
 
The Rams jumped out to a 14-6 lead out of the gate, but a frenetic pace eventually caught up to Texas Wesleyan.  TWU led 34-33 with 5:51 on the clock, when OLLU blitzed the Rams with a 21-5 run that left Texas Wesleyan with only one timeout remaining down 55-38 with 1:47 to play.  Both teams shot over 50% from the floor, but the Saints led 21-9 in points off of turnovers, 12-5 in second chance points, 21-14 in fast break points, and 29-3 in bench points to hold a 57-42 lead at the intermission.
 
The Saints knocked down a pair of threes in a quick 7-2 run that pushed their lead to 20 points at 64-44.  The lead swelled to 28 at 78-50 less than five minutes into the period.  The Rams were unable to overcome the Saints hot shooting the rest of the way.
 
OLLU hit 22-of-49 (45%) long range shots for the game including 13-of-24 in the second half.
 
For the game, both teams hit at a 54% clip from the field, but OLLU got off 29 more attempts than the Rams.  A 24-15 turnover margin led to a 38-22 count in points off of turnovers.  The Saints also scored a whopping 48 fast break points to 30 for the Rams.

"Give all the credit in the world to Our Lady of the Lake," commented head coach Terry Waldrop.  "They shot the ball incredibly well and were the better team tonight."
 
Eric Frederick led all scorers with 33 points, while Ronnie Moss finished with 30.  Oscar Griffin added 14 for the Rams.
 
Seven Saints reached double-figures in scoring led by Eddie Ortiz’s 22.  Josh Orta pitched in a double-double with 13 points and 14 assists in the win.
 
The Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they travel to Muskogee, OK, to take on Bacone College.  That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
