Box Score Box Score

BROWNSVILLE, TX:  A three run seventh inning placed the Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (9-4, 3-3 RRAC) on the wrong end of a 7-5 score in the series finale at UT-Brownsville (11-5, 6-0) on Sunday.

The Rams used a two-run double from Alex Padilla in the third and a two run double from Stephen Niedwiecki in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.

After allowing one hit and striking out four in the first four innings, Dillon Wilson hit a stumbling block in the fifth.  The Scorpions plated three runs in an inning highlighted by a two run homer from Zach Cordia.  UTB got a leadoff double from Colby Henscey in the sixth and tied the game with a base hit from Kyle Douglas.

The Rams reclaimed the lead in the top of the seventh. Tyler King drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and later scored on a Padilla single.  However, three singles and a hit batter in the seventh led to three UTB runs and the Scorpions held on for the 7-5 win.

Nolan Barbee (1-1), who had not allowed an earned run in his first 7.2 innings this season, took the loss after allowing three runs on three hits in two innings of relief work.

Adam Vera moved to 4-0 with the win.  Vera allowed five runs on eight hits in seven innings of work.  Matt Leffler earned his first save of the year with two scoreless innings of relief.

The Rams will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Austin, TX, to take on St. Edward’s University.  That game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start.
