Baseball vs. Central Baptist Gallery
FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (10-5) stole a non-conference game from Central Baptist College (3-2) 6-5 with a walk off single to right by Christian Soberanes at La Grave Field on Friday.
The Rams scored first in the second inning when an Alex Padilla double to right center made way for a Jordan Fuller RBI double to no man’s land to take a 1-0 lead.
The Mustangs took the lead in the third after an error and a walk to lead off the inning allowed Kris Hurtt to move the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Kris Hobbs hit a laser RBI single to second base, but a good stop by Joseph Lassiter saved the second run from coming in. On the next play a bloop single to shallow center was able to score the second run as Central Baptist ended the inning up 2-0.
Justin Barnes tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning after a Soberanes single to right allowed Barnes to score him from third with a single through the right side to tie the game at 2-2.
Central Baptist retook the lead in the fifth with a Blake Dixon RBI double down the right field line to give the Mustangs a 3-2 lead.
The Rams got in some trouble in the sixth as they loaded the bases with no out. Patrick Stanley came in the relieve Derek Vaughn and struck out the first two, but a two RBI single from Hobbs extended the Mustang to 5-2.
Texas Wesleyan got one back in the back in the sixth when Padilla and Barnes got on base with back to back singles to start the inning. Lassiter moved the runners with a sacrifice bunt, and Fuller lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to make it 5-3 Central Baptist through six.
The Rams got the tying run to second base in the bottom of the of the ninth after an error and single let Stephen Niedwiecki move both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Vincent Winter came through with a RBI single to right to make it 5-4. Winter moved to second on a no throw from the catcher to put runners on second and third for Soberanes. Soberanes played walk off hero and singled to shallow right close to the line to score two runs for the 6-5 win.
Padilla went 2 for 3 for the Rams. Fuller went 1 for 3 with two RBI. Barnes went 2 for 4 with a RBI, and Soberanes went 2 for 5 with two RBI in the win.
Jacob Lyons (2-0) got the win in two innings of work. He gave up no runs on one hit with no walks and two strikeouts in the contest.
The Rams will play a double header tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The Rams will take on Central Baptist again in the early game before taking on Dallas Christian at La Grave Field.
