FORT WORTH, TX: The 11th ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (23-6, 18-5 RRAC) cruised to a 76-60 win over Bacone College (3-26, 2-22) on Senior Day at the Sid Richardson Center.
Prior to the game, the Rams honored six seniors, including four players, for their outstanding contributions to the Texas Wesleyan Men’s Basketball program.
The Rams made sure to send the seniors out with one last win on the home floor, firing at a 60% clip from the field in the first half. A 13-3 run ate up nearly five minutes of game time and left the Rams with a 23-12 advantage. A slam from
Eric Frederick pushed the lead to 15 points (32-17) and the Rams went to the locker room with a comfortable 41-28 edge.
The Rams cooled off some in the second half, but never allowed the Warriors to make a game of it. Texas Wesleyan led by as many as 22 points, 76-54 on the way to an easy 76-60 victory.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Warriors 50%-40% from the field and 73% (19-26) – 56% (10-18) at the free throw line. The Rams also grabbed 41 rebounds compared to just 21 for Bacone. Texas Wesleyan led 34-20 in points in the paint, 22-7 in points off of turnovers, 16-5 in second chance points, 15-2 on the fast break, and 24-12 in bench points.
Three of the four senior players nearly posted double-doubles in the win. Frederick led the way with 24 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
Stephane Mudiay posted 12 points and 10 rebounds, and
Ryan Glanzer was good for nine points and nine boards while helping the Rams to the 106th win of his career.
Oscar Griffin added 14 points to the effort.
Head coach Terry Wadlrop praised his seniors after the game. “What Glanzer has accomplished and Cody [Waldrop] before him is an amazing stat,” Waldrop said. “Not many people can say they are the winningest player in the history of their program. He has meant a tremendous amount to our team, and I cannot say enough good things about him. Mudiay is one of the best young men Texas Wesleyan has ever had, and I couldn’t be more proud of him. Frederick should be front runner for player of the year, and
Chris Britt-Black has played a key a role all year and will continue to do so.”
Bacone was led by Lakheem Trotter’s 25 points, while Charles Gordon finished with 17 in the loss.
The Rams will close the regular season at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, TX, in Monday. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
