BELTON, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (5-0) took a convincing 13-0 win at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (0-1) in the first ever night game at Red Murff Field.

The game looked to be low scoring early on.  Jacob Lyons held the Cru scoreless through five innings of work.  Meanwhile UMHB hurlers Chance Ryan and Taylor Burrow combined to strikeout eight Rams through the first four innings.

The Rams did the bulk of the damage in the fifth and sixth innings, batting around and getting big hits from Joseph Lassiter in both frames.

In the fifth, Hunter Robinson walked and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches.  Stephen Niedwiecki then lifted a sac fly to right that was dropped.  Lassiter followed with a two-run homer, and the Rams led 3-0.

The following inning, Justin Barnes and Robinson started an eight-run rally with back-to-back walks.  Two batters later, Lassiter plated both Barnes and Robinson with a single down the left field line.  In total, the Rams sent 13 men to the plate, adding RBI singles from Alex Padilla and Robinson as well as an RBI double from Niedwiecki while extending the lead to 11-0

In the top of the ninth, Vincent Winter led off with a single, Christian Soberanes followed with a double, and Jordan Fuller brought both runners in with a one-out double to cap the scoring at 13-0.

The Rams scored 13 runs on 12 hits off of six UMHB pitchers.  Lassiter finished 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI.  Andrew Coleman went 2-for-2 at the plate, while Soberanes had two doubles in five trips to the plate.  Fuller and Niedwiecki each had a pair of RBI in the win.

Lyons (1-0) picked up the win after allowing four hits and a walk while striking out two in five innings of work.  Blake Ballard, Marshall Little, and Nolan Barbee combined to allow two hits and a walk in four innings of relief.

Although he did not allow a hit while striking out five in 2.1 innings pitched, Burrow (0-1) took the loss after allowing two runs, one earned, on two walks.

The Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they host Tabor College (KS).  That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start at LaGrave Field.
