Baseball vs. Tabor Gallery

 

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (5-1) dropped a game to the Tabor College Bluejays (1-0) 6-4 at La Grave Field on Thursday.

Texas Wesleyan started out smoking out, picking up three runs on four hits in the bottom of the first. Taylor Jockers started things with a double off the base of the right field wall. Christian Soberanes put one in the right center gap for a single, and Alex Padilla drew a walk to load the bases. Hunter Robinson drove in a run with single to left, and Steven Niedwiecki had a RBI single to make it a 2-0 ball game. Then, Jake Howeth grounded into a fielder’s choice to put the Rams up 3-0. 

The Bluejays took the lead with a pair of two-run homers. Matt Weger made it 3-2 with a home run to left field in the second, and Andrew Perez hit a line drive shot that just made it over the left center fence to give Tabor a 4-3 lead heading to the bottom of the third.

The Rams tried to make some noise with a Jordan Fuller shot to left center. Fuller tried to leg out a triple, but was unsuccessful, and with it a possible opportunity to tie the game. 

Tabor extended the lead in the sixth inning with a Weger RBI single through the left side on a hit and run play. Cody Wheeler put another run across with a single into shallow center to make it a 6-3 ball game.

Howeth started off the ninth inning right with a home run to left field making it a 6-4 deficit. Then Joesph Lassiter hit the left center gap for a stand up double. Soberanes then singled through the left side to make it runner at the corners for Brian White with two outs. White hit a liner to right, but was caught for the final out to stop the comeback and drop the game 6-4. 

Robinson went 2 for 4 with one RBI and Howeth went 1 for 4 with two RBI for the Rams.

Chris Pearson (1-1) got the loss tossing 4.0 innings giving up four runs on two hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

 The Rams will open conference play with a series against the University of the Southwest tomorrow, February 10 at 2:30 p.m. at La Grave Field.
