AUSTIN, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (19-6, 8-3 RRAC) swept a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader at Huston-Tillotson University (3-13, 0-6) with scores of 12-0 and 6-2.  Rain shortened the three-game weekend series to the two games on Monday.

Taylor Jockers led off game one with a double, but HTU held the Rams off the scoreboard until the third inning.  In that inning, Brian White drew a leadoff double and an HTU error extended the inning for sac flys from Christian Soberanes and Alex Padilla and an RBI single from Justin Barnes.

A solo homer from White in the fourth and a two-run shot from Jordan Fuller in the fifth pushed the score to 6-0.

In the seventh, the Rams took advantage of another HTU error and used a two-run double from Jake Howeth and a two-run home run from Barnes during a six-run rally that capped the scoring at 12-0.

Derek Vaughn (4-0) picked up the win in a complete-game shutout effort.  Vaughn allowed four hits and four walks while striking out eight.

Barnes went 2-for-4 with a home run a walk and three RBI for Texas Wesleyan while White was a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run and a walk.  Fuller and Joseph Lassiter each had a pair of hits as well as TWU outhit HTU 13-4.

In game two, Huston-Tillotson spotted the Rams a run in the third inning with a pair of defensive miscues.  Meanwhile Dillon Wilson faced the minimum nine batters in the first three innings thanks to a pair of double-plays.

In the fifth, HTU tied the game on an error and a passed ball.  With a runner at third and one out, the Rams brought the infield in and got a grounder to second.  Lassiter threw to first for the out and the HTU runner broke late for home allowing Stephen Niedwiecki to throw home for an inning-ending double-play.

The Rams pushed back ahead with an RBI single from Soberanes in the sixth, but HTU got an RBI single from Carlos Garcia in the seventh to tie the game at two.

Texas Wesleyan finally put the game away with a four-run rally in the ninth.  Lassiter started things off with a walk.  He later scored on a single from White.  With runners at the corners, Vincent Winter and Andrew Coleman executed a double-steal for the second run of the frame.  Winter later scored on a wild pitch and Jockers walked and scored on a pair of errors.

Dillon Wilson received no decision in the win after allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits in 6.1 innings.  Nolan Barbee (3-1) picked up the win with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief work.

Winter went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored in the game-two victory.

The Rams will return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Victoria, TX, to take on the University of Houston-Victoria.  Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
