MARSHALL, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (26-10, 12-5 RRAC) took a three game sweep of Wiley College (6-18, 4-13 RRAC), taking a 5-1 win on Friday before double dipping the wildcats 4-2 and 4-3 on Saturday.
In the first game of the series the Wildcats started off the scoring early in the first inning with a pair of singles that led to a 1-0 lead.
Wiley kept the Rams in check through three innings, but Wesleyan took a 2-1 lead in the fourth thanks to a pair of Wildcat errors.
The game was deadlocked until the Rams broke through with a three eighth inning. Texas Wesleyan loaded the bases to start the inning with an error and hit batter, and a Justin Barnes single. Joseph Lassiter put a RBI single into shallow center to take a 3-1 lead. Joel Horton picked up a RBI with a bases loaded hit by pitch, and a wild pitch allowed Barnes to score to take a 5-1 lead that the Rams would not relinquish.
Horton went 1 for 3 with three RBI. Taylor Jockers went 3 for 5 in the win.
The Rams put up a 2-0 lead in the second game of the series with two run home run by Brian White in the second inning.
Wesleyan put two more runs up in the fifth with a Barnes RBI single to center and a Stephen Niedwiecki double to left center to make it a 4-0 ball game.
Wiley would cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the same inning, but could not make a comeback dropping the game 4-2.
Dillion Wilson picked up his fifth win of the season tossing six complete innings giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits with two walks and 13 strikeouts.
Barnes went 3 for 4 with a RBI in the game. White went 1 for 3 with two RBI.
Texas Wesleyan took the first lead again in the third game of the series with an Alex Padilla RBI single to third base to make it 1-0 in the first inning.
The Wildcats made it a game by taking the lead with a three run third inning. Zaragoza drove in a run for the Wiley before Eddie Fernandez doubled down the line for two more runs to take a 3-2 lead.
The Rams answered in the fifth inning with a Christian Soberanes RBI single to tie the game 3-3.
Texas Wesleyan went over the top in the eighth with a Lassiter RBI single to give the Rams a 4-3 that they would hold onto to win the third game completing the sweep.
Patrick Stanley picked up his fourth and fifth save in the double header.
Padilla went 2 for 2 with a RBI. Lassiter went 2 for 4 and a RBI in the win.
The Rams will continue their road swing playing the University of Dallas on March 27 at 3:00 p.m. in Richardson, TX.
