Rams Blast Bacone with Late Rally

MUSKOGEE, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (27-11, 13-5 RRAC) scored 13 runs in the last four innings to pull away from Bacone College (20-13, 10-6) 16-5 in the opener of a Red River Athletic Conference series on Friday.
 
Justin Barnes knocked his third home run of the season to give the Rams a 1-0 advantage before the Warriors had a chance to bat.  However, two Texas Wesleyan errors led to two Bacone runs in the bottom of the inning.
 
Bacone added single tallies in the second, third, and fourth innings, while the Barnes blasted his second home run of the game, a two run shot in the third inning, to bring the score to 5-3 in favor of the Warriors.
 
The Wesleyan bats broke the game open in the fifth.  Taylor Jockers led off with a double and Barnes, Joel Horton, Joseph Lassiter, and Brian White each had an RBI during a five-run frame.
 
Jake Howeth led off the eighth with a double and later scored on a single from Alex Padilla.  In the ninth, Texas Wesleyan sent 11 men to the plate and notched seven runs on six hits and an intentional walk to Barnes.
 
Barnes finished 2-for-3 with 4 RBI, two intentional walks, and three runs scored on the day.  Padilla added four hits in five trips to the plate with a pair of RBI.  Horton and Lassiter each had three hits and three RBI in the win as well.  For the game, Texas Wesleyan outhit Bacone 19-8.
 
Tyler King (4-2) picked up the win after allowing five runs, three earned on eight hits in five innings pitched.  Justin McGee took the loss after allowing eight runs, six earned, on 10 hits in 4.1 innings.
 
The Rams and Warriors will complete their three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday.  Game one is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
