Baseball vs. St. Edward's Gallery
FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (30-14) took a 4-3 loss to St. Edward’s University (22-9) at La Grave Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Starter
Blake Ballard worked nicely to get out of trouble in the first inning after the lead off reached base on a drop third strike and worked his way to third with only one out. Ballard showed some resolve and struck out the three and four hole hitters to end the inning.
The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the third inning after a deep drive RBI double to right center by
Justin Barnes scored
Jake Howeth.
The Hilltoppers loaded the base again in the fourth, but
Jacob Lyons came in to the game in relief for Ballard and closed the door, getting a line drive out to center on one pitch.
Saint Edward’s tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning with a RBI single by Colin Elmore.
The Hilltoppers took the lead in the seventh with a RBI stand up triple to dead right center field by Adam Shank. He later scored on a wild pitch to make a 3-1 ball game.
The Rams fought back and tied it at 3 apiece in the bottom half of the inning with a miscue on an attempted sacrifice bunt that allowed
Joel Horton to score. Later in the inning Howeth came through with a RBI single to tie the game.
St. Edward’s took back a slight advantage with a Nate Brobowski RBI single to make it 4-3.
The Rams could make no headway and fall 4-3 to Saint Edward’s.
Howeth went 1 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI. Barnes went 2 for 4 with a RBI. Horton and
Alex Padilla each went 2 for 4 in the loss.
The Rams will look to bounce back on the road against Dallas Christian. That double header set to start on Tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
