Baseball vs. Houston-Victoria Gallery
FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (35-15) took a 4-2 loss to Houston-Victoria (14-24) before putting away the Jags 6-2 in game two.
The Jaguars led off the top of the second inning with a Chad Kruse stand up triple to deep left center. This set up a John Longoria double right down the right field line for a RBI and first lead of the ball game. A sacrifice bunt moved the runner to third and a RBI bunt from Brandon Bohanon made it 2-0. Andrew Thibodeaux hit a home run to left field to extend the lead to 3-0 Jags.
Stephen Niedwiecki put a double down the left field line to set up a RBI single into right field by Taylor Jockers.
The Rams got another run back in the fourth inning with another Niedwiecki lead-off double to left field. He later scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-3.
The Jaguars put a rally together in the sixth with a lead-off walk and a pair of singles to put up a run and take a 4-2 lead that they would take for the win.
Jockers went 2 for 3 with a RBI. Joel Horton went 3 for 3 for the Rams. Niedwiecki went 2 for 3 with two double and two runs scored.
In game two, Houston-Victoria got on the board early with a RBI single by Ryan Suescun to take an early 1-0 lead.
Justin Barnes answered in the bottom half of the inning with an opposite field home run blast over the left field fence to tie the game 1-1.
Barnes continued to be a force, giving the Rams the lead in the third with a RBI ground rule double to left center for a 2-1 lead.
The Jaguars tied the game in the sixth inning with a Longoria RBI single through the left side, scoring Corti Wilson from second who reached base on a very optimistic single to third base on a ball that was way foul but had some spin and found favorable foul territory grass to push it back fair before third base Horton could get to it.
The Rams tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Horton reached on a hit by pitch. The Jags intentionally walked Padilla to put runners on first and second with one out. Winter hit a chopper to the first baseman who promptly threw it into left field to score Horton on the error. Brian White came through with a big insurance two RBI double to right center to make it a 5-2 ball game. Neidwiecki hit his third double of the day (RBI), to give the Rams a 6-2 cushion heading into the final inning.
Patrick Stanley came into to shut the door on the Jaguars in the top of the seventh to secure the 6-2 win.
Barnes went 2 for 3 with two RBI. White went 1 for 3 with two RBI, and Niedwiecki went 1 for 3 with a RBI in the win.
The Rams will continue the series with Houston-Victoria in a double header tomorrow starting at 11:00 am.
